The Pastor's Pen

“PROGRESS TAKES PLACE ONLY WHEN CHURCHES ARE ALIVE AND ARE WILLING
TO BE PRODUCTIVE FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD.  THAT MEANS THAT WE AS A
CHURCH WILL CONTINUALLY BE PRUNED, AND WE WILL GO THROUGH A
PROCESS THAT GOD USES TO MAKE US MORE FRUITFUL FOR HIM.”

I often reflect upon one question as I pray and seek God’s guidance upon
what He wants done upon these holy grounds on 200 Zane Oak Road.  The
question is “What decision have I made lately and does that decision coincide
with how I view the future of this church?”  My focus when my family first
arrived in Oak Hill was to preach the Word and love the people, no more and no
less.  I believe that a pastor should get to know who God has put in place in the
church, identify the resources that God has blessed us with, and put together a
team that will bridge people with the resources given so that we can birth a
strong lay ministry that will set us on a course of physical and spiritual growth
within our community.  Lay ministry is vital on what we do as a community of
believers and I know that where I am limited in time, talent, and ability, there are
others that will compliment the overall effectiveness of the ministry that God
has entrusted US with.

I believe in the leadership of the church that we have in place and I believe in
the great people that God has led to this church over the years.  As you read this,
ask yourself the question “what can I do to be a productive participant of what
God is doing in my church?”  I want you to know that we all have an opportunity
to be used by God only if we allow ourselves to an active part of the vine of
Jesus.  We must allow Him to prune us so that we may bear much fruit for Him.
My challenge to you is that will you prayerfully consider the needs of the church
and search your soul on how you can be used for the overall ministry of this
church.
